What is keeping you from leaving the past?

There is no God of the dead, and no God of the future either. God is now, the instant that we are living; that is the richness of God... That is what life is, it is living the present instant, what He gives us to live.

There is no God of the dead, but rather a God of the living. He wanted to say to Nicodemus: "Leave your past behind. Your past is dead. Do not look back on your past, not even to go bury your father, for the body is no longer but an inert body, his soul is already with the living God; you however, follow me."

This means: do not turn back towards your past. As long as you look back on your past, you drain your energies. You live on suffering, for one does not keep good memories, but rather sad ones. You must therefore break the chains of that past; you must live the present. The present is the living God. There is no God of the dead, and no God of the future either. God is now, the instant that we are living; that is the richness of God... That is what life is, it is living the present instant, what He gives us to live. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow is another day. God will give you what you deserve to receive, but for now, live the time that He gives you to live.

Remember this because you often want to plan long-term projects; do not do so, let God create your future. Live in joy and trust. If you knew how gentle it is to live in total trust, how gentle it is to know that we are taken care of. This is your dream, isn't it, all of you?
Why do we love our parents so much? Because they guide us, because they have been our protectors, they have been our "security gates", they have been those gates that protected us from evil dangers. They held our hand to help us walk and we could trust them because every parent ensures that their child does not lack food, does not lack clothing. What parent would leave a child standing at the door? If they knock, one opens the door for them.

How can you imagine that the Lord does less than our parents? He is all-powerful by our side and He wants us to trust Him. He certainly wants to guide us on the right track; He wants to bring us to complete happiness but we must let ourselves be led. We do not know about the reefs and boulders on our path, He does. He knows everything about us, about our future and what we will become. He knows what we need. We must therefore be aware of placing ourselves in His hands.
